How It All Started: Meet Your Captain…

Born and raised in Juneau, Captain Clayton is a lifelong Alaskan fisherman whose life has always followed the tides. He started fishing at just five years old, spending summers beside his father and learning the rhythms of Southeast Alaska’s commercial fishing traditions, passed down through generations.

Over the past few decades, Clayton has worked across nearly every fishery in the region: longlining for halibut and sablefish, seining for salmon, pot fishing for sablefish, and crabbing for Dungeness, Tanner, and King crab. He also spent years co-captaining the F/V Seaview, running trips throughout Southeast Alaska and gaining deep local knowledge of its waters, wildlife, and weather. His work has even extended into research, partnering with NOAA, ADF&G, and other marine organizations.

Eventually, Clayton felt called to do something more—something personal. That’s when Juneau Crabbing Tours was born: a way to share the world he knows best with others. Through these hands-on experiences, he invites guests to step into the boots of a real Alaskan crabber, offering an unforgettable adventure on the water.

When he's not on the boat, Clayton enjoys quiet time at home with his wife Jess—a marine biologist who shares his love for the ocean—and their two dogs, Wallie the Redbone Coonhound and Willa the Mini Aussie.

Whether you’re pulling pots, spotting sea life, or soaking in the view, you’re in good hands with a captain who’s spent a lifetime on these waters.
